An annual census found that total pupil numbers in private schools fell in 2005 by 0.6 per cent. 92.2 per cent of pupils from private schools went on to higher education.

A schools inspectorate report said that partnerships forged between private and state-maintained schools had succeeded in building bridges between the sectors and breaking down 'negative preconceptions'.
